Creative Life Gallery (New Art at Bandidas)
New year, new art! Our last show featuring the Hope in Shadows calendar project was a huge success, and we’re keeping our focus on Downtown Eastside initiatives as we head into the new year. The artwork presented in this next show was created by neighbourhood youth artists (aged 12-25) at the Creative Life studio on Princess Avenue. A bit about the studio’s philosophy:
“Creative Life was formed in response to the key assets of creativity and resiliency that we saw as very present in this community of youth, wanting to give them uplifting opportunities to explore and express themselves, while discovering the assets that were already present within them. At Creative Life, we also recognize that a large component of purpose comes from having a healthy perception of place in community; being able to contribute meaningfully and having one’s voice valued in a larger place of belonging. We value the transformative work that art evokes and times we have creating together.”
All proceeds of the artwork go directly to the youth artists who created them. For more information on how to lead an artist's workshop, program times, or getting involved as a volunteer, check out www.creative-life.ca.
If you haven’t checked out our Ronny Russell t-shirts, we’ve still got a few left, and $5 from every shirt purchased goes to support another instrumental neighbourhood organization, the Downtown Eastside Women’s Centre.
