“Jesse is a large-scale oil painter with a focus on contemporary portraiture, working and studying on the unceded traditional territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations.

Jesse’s interest in portraiture is a product of his deep interest in the way we, as individuals and as a culture, construct our sense of self and other. Technically, his work is guided by a desire to represent the subject's emotional and psychological reality in paint; He works with concepts such as plasticity, distortion, translation, and other methods by which we adapt and change with the material and immaterial conditions in which we live."
